[HELP!] 3ds Max 9 crashing on splash screen

Hey everyone!

After being away from my computer for about a month my 3ds Max 9 has stopped working.

Here are my computer specs:
Quote:

System Information
------------------
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (6.2.9200)
Architecture: 64-bit
Motherboard: Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-1757
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz (Physical: 4, Logical: 8 )
Memory: 8,00 GB
DIMM Modules: ChannelB-DIMM0: 8,00 GB @ 1600 MHz
Page File: 6,00 GB
.NET Framework: 4.5, Runtime: 4.0.30319.18449

Display Information
-------------------
Display Device(s): Generic PnP Monitor on Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
Display Mode(s): 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) @ 60 Hz
Driver Version: 9.18.10.3111
Display Memory: 2,03 GB
All I get when I try to run the program is a flash of the splash screen and then nothing. Rarely the splash screen stays up but freezes when loading the "stdplugs".

Here's what I've tried, without any luck:
  • I've tried to rename the plugin that it freezes on. However it just tries to load the next one and freezes in the same way. So I guess it's not a plugin problem.
  • I've tried to remove the whole stdplugs folder. But that (obviously) just made it crash in another way.
  • I am running it as admin and I've tried all compatibility mode settings.
  • I have installed all the SPs and all the hotfixes.
  • I've tried to clear all traces of Autodesk in the registry. (Might be some hidden somewhere under another name?)
  • I've tried to reinstall it.
  • I've tried to uninstall everything from Autodesk.
  • I've tried installing it on my C-drive and on my D-drive.
  • I've tried installing it in '...\Program Files\...' and in '...\Program Files (x86)\...'. I guess it belongs in (x86) though?.

I'm kind of running out of ideas here. I guess a format and a fresh install of windows would probably fix it. But that's a hassle.

I know that 3ds Max 9 isn't officially supported on Windows 8 but it was working a month ago and I haven't updated windows or max. I'm thinking that I might have installed something else that is interfering with it.

So, any ideas on how to get 3ds Max 9 to run again?

Thanks!
